1958 Summer Tarr Steps across the River Barle in the Exmoor National Park, Somerset. This old clapper bridge dates from medieval times, though some say it is much older. The bridge is 55 metres long with 17 spans and some of the large stones or clappers weigh as much as three tons. It is a Grade 1 listed building and a scheduled protected monument.

This picture taken in 1958 was after the great flood of 1952 when the bridge was damaged. Another flood on 22 December 2012 washed many of the stones downstream and the bridge has since been rebuilt.

Camera: MPP Microcord ll Twin Lens Reflex with 77.5 mm F3.5 Ross Xpres four component lens. Film: Ilford FP 3 Panchromatic film. My exposure was 1/100 at F5.6. Developed by hand using Kodak Microdol at normal dilution.
