1962 February - Jordan. Near Mudawarrah close to the border with Saudi Arabia. This railway track was a section of the original Hijaz Railway blown apart in an attack by T.E Lawrence - 'Lawrence of Arabia' - in 1917 during the Arab Revolt. Wreckage from the Ottoman train travelling on the line at the time rests upside down in the desert. Since the picture was taken the track has been taken up and the wreckage moved. Only the slightly raised and still firm rail bed remains.
