1961 LAKE TITICACA BOLIVIA Totora reed bundle rafts or balsas close to the southern shore of the lake. To make these boats the Aymara fishermen used dried totora reeds to make each bundle and bound them tightly with rope hand braided from native grass. Several bundles were put together and bound to create a single raft. The poles - Aymara ñoq'eña are used for pushing the rafts in shallow water close to the lake shore.

Camera: MPP Microflex Twin Lens Reflex with F3.5 77.5mm Taylor Taylor Hobson lens. Film Kodak Verichrome Pan at F11 - 1/125 second. Developed by hand in La Paz using May and Baker Promicrol at normal dilution.
